What Can I Do?!?

When I look around I feel like we are losing the fight. Yes, we are in a fight. Evil seems to be winning.
There is division everywhere. Our government is turned upside down, republicans fighting with other republicans. Democrats fighting with democrats, both sides fighting with each other.
Our schools are fighting about curriculum, the presence of religion in school, racism, bullying, etc.
Company's are murdering babies, selling their body parts, and being supported by our taxes. The country is divided by the lies told to them and their lack of education on the truth.
We are fighting about gender identity, homosexuality, and the definition of marriage.
People are being murdered in movie theaters, churches, military recruitment centers, and on city streets at a higher rate than we have seen in over forty years.
There is proven corruption running so deep in our federal government that there seems to be no way out of the lies.
BUT THIS IS A SIGN OF HOPE!!
This division among us is designed by the evil one to bring us to despair. To think, "there is nothing I can do". The problems are too big for me, I need to just focus on me and my family. NO! Don't give into despair and allow evil to spread and run deeper and deeper into our country but have hope!

So I ask myself, "What can I do?"
I'm just one person with no political influence in schools, state or federal government, or even my community. I have a full time job, a family to provide for, I'm busy. Plus, I'm not a priest or a pastor. I'm not a theologian or bible scholar. How am I supposed to make a difference.
What can I do?...NOTHING!
I can do nothing BUT the Holy Spirit is LIMITLESS!! Yes, praise God! There is my source of hope in this crazy world. I can not accomplish some tangible list of goals that will make me holy enough to then preach the Word of God and change the world but I can stop holding back the Holy Spirit from doing it. Look at Peter, he walked with Jesus and had just as much faith as anyone but when the crowds torturing Jesus came looking at him he denied Jesus three times. He was not perfect, he sinned just like me BUT he had perseverance! He didn't dwell in despair, once he was filled with the Holy Spirit he led the apostles to spread Christianity throughout the entire world!

The evil one wants us to think that we are not good enough, holy enough, or powerful enough to do God's will in our lives. He wants us to float through life trying to "survive" through our days of work/school with our heads clouded with lies of the "important" things; Work, school, clothes, friends, movies, t.v., music, cars, etc. This is how we stay distracted while he tears apart our world and divides us in every way possible so we can not stop his evil attack on us, the unborn, the elderly, our parents, friends, and children. We need unity! Christians fighting among each other is an absolute tragedy! If the evil one can not make us deny God he can tear us apart by causing division among us. There is strength in numbers, there is power in family and unity, there is LOVE. If we can have love among ourselves then we can spread that love to the world around us.

So...What can I do? I can be open to the Holy Spirit in my life, begging him to fill my heart, mind, and speech every single day. I can humble myself before God everyday, with Jesus as an atonement for my sins, asking to be filled with the Holy Spirit like Peter and the Apostles were! I can read scripture and spend time in pray to increase my faith that God can do anything he wants to if I will be his hands and feet here on earth. The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. He needs me to say YES, YES to his will not my will. I have to do this everyday so that my desires don't get in the way.

The Holy Spirit is patient with people, does not rush to anger, serves others first, wants to heal others from sickness, depression, loneliness, and despair. The Holy spirit is kind, gentle, and compassionate. The Holy Spirit loves. If we are inviting the Holy Spirit into our lives EVERYDAY, reading scripture, and praying then our will can become one with the will of the Father! We will start responding to people with love! Being slow to anger, compassionate, and kind. We will start to make people feel better about themselves and their situations in life. We will bring our families closer to God through our actions and service to them because we will not be thinking about ourselves but about them. We will start to look at our day differently, not, "what's in it for me" but "how can I help them"!! And them is everyone that God puts in our life that day.

As we all beg God to be filled with the Holy Spirit in such a way that he pours out of us into those around us we will start to be United. In ways that we could never imagine God will unite us in Christ and miraculous things will happen around us that can only be explained as the work of God. This will bring others to the truth and love of Christ!

Peace and God Bless!

It's a beautiful prayer!

  1. Michael, a wonderful posting. Please keep us updated also on your missionary journey and adventures. The love that we show to others is very important. It also brings us a joy and peace that the world does not understand. When we can rest in the Lord, even in the midst of turmoil and crisis in the world, we will maintain a peace that passes all understanding. This is the kind of peace that the Lord is trying to bring to us.

It is when we love others, and they see the love and joy within us, they will ask us and be open to our explanation of Jesus.

God bless you in your mission efforts.
